His expertise also spans IT & technology and sports law.
Giles is chair of the Sheffield City Region LEP's Sector Group for Business Professional & Financial Services and Growth Board member and a Trustee and Board Member of Sheffield Theatres.
A life-long Sheffield Wednesday fan, he is also a keen cook and veg grower.
Giles recently acted for a regionally-based company providing bespoke mobile-tracking and work scheduling IT systems in a seven-figure claim surrounding purported termination of a contract with one of the UK’s major water companies. The claim progressed through the Technology and Construction Court and required a significant amount of expert evidence and analysis as well a very extensive electronic disclosure exercise and substantial amounts of factual witness evidence. A mediation did not itself result in a settlement but by further pressing the water company both through negotiations and within the proceedings themselves, it ultimately conceded and agreed a commercial settlement at a very satisfactory level for the client, so avoiding the uncertainty, stress and very substantial costs of a 4 week trial.
