Andrew has substantial experience of representing clients in general Commercial disputes, including complex ones conducted in High and County Court proceedings, applications to the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber), arbitrations, expert determinations and mediations.

His specialisms include Property, Landlord and Tenant and Construction disputes.

Described by the Legal 500 as “robust and skilful” and “first rate litigator”, Andrew is also an accredited Mediator and a Member of the Property Litigation Association and the Society of Construction Law.

Background:

Andrew originally qualified as a barrister after obtaining a law degree from the University of London, before re-qualifying as a solicitor in 1992.

He is married with three children, a Governor of Birkdale School and enjoys skiing and golf in his spare time.

Case Study:

Andrew acted for a major financial services client in a dispute as to whether its tenant of a unit on a business park had brought its lease, under which a very substantial rent was payable, to an end.  The tenant, which was also the local authority, had arguably not served its break notice validly in the first place and if even it had, had not subsequently satisfied the conditions specified in the lease for the break notice to be effective, enabling the client landlord to maintain that the lease had not been brought an end.  Andrew represented the client in the High Court action to determine the validity and effectiveness of the break notice and then advised the client to try to resolve the claim via  alternative dispute resolution.  At the ensuing mediation at which Andrew also represented the client a very satisfactory settlement was reached whereby the client received a six figure sum in return for agreeing to the early termination of the lease, so avoiding the uncertainty of a trial and saving tens of thousands of pounds in litigation costs.
